PM Kobakhidze labels MEGOBARI Act as "absolutely hostile," citing Orwellian approach

“The MEGOBARI Act is, in fact, absolutely hostile,” Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, told journalists.

According to the Head of Government, it is incomprehensible how an act permeated with hostility towards the Georgian people and their elected government could be labelled a MEGOBARI Act (translated as friend in Georgian) from start to finish.

“Once again, the Orwellian approach is evident – a continuation of the idea that friend is enemy, war is peace, and so forth,” Kobakhidze stated.

“How can an act imbued with a hostile attitude towards the Georgian people and the government elected by the Georgian people be called a ‘friendly act’ (MEGOBARI Act) from beginning to end? This is a hostile act. The battle between Trump and the ‘Deep State’ continues. When such a decision is made, it signifies that at that particular moment, the ‘Deep State’ has prevailed over the Trump administration. We witnessed this a couple of days ago. We still maintain optimistic expectations that the Trump administration will overcome the ‘Deep State.’ If this occurs, then relations between Georgia and the United States of America will improve,” the Prime Minister said.

The head of the government added that certain individuals are influenced not by President Trump, but by the “Deep State,” citing Joe Wilson as one such person.

“He embodies the ‘Deep State’ from beginning to end,” Irakli Kobakhidze asserted.

The Prime Minister reiterated his optimistic outlook on President Trump’s potential victory over the “Deep State.”

The U.S. House of Representatives has reviewed and passed the Mobilising and Enhancing Georgia’s Options for Building Accountability, Resilience, and Independence Act or the MEGOBARI Act.
The bill was supported by 349 congressmen – 168 Republicans and 181 Democrats. Another 42 congressmen voted against it, and 42 abstained.
