PM Kobakhidze: Georgia is region's leader in right economic policy, strong team, and excellent record on freedom from corruption

“Today, our legislative framework is fully aligned with international standards, ensuring our complete integration into the global financial system,” declared Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in an address at the presentation of Tether’s investment project.

As the Head of Government noted, realising an ambition of this scale would not have been possible without the corresponding legislative changes, which were developed in conjunction with the Georgian Parliament, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Finance, and with the active involvement of the National Bank of Georgia.

“We adopted the requisite legislation in good time and established the appropriate regulatory framework, which creates a very solid foundation for the sound development of our partnership. Today, our legislative space is fully aligned with international standards, ensuring our complete integration into the global financial system,” Irakli Kobakhidze stated.

He further noted that Georgia’s economy has now been growing at a very rapid pace for six consecutive years.

“As you are aware, since 2021, our average annual economic growth has stood at 9.3 per cent. This trend has continued into the current year. In the present quarter, growth reached 9.1 per cent. All of this rests on very concrete, solid foundations, namely, that we have the right economic policy, the right economic vision, and a very strong team within the government; I am referring to the economic team. Business is free, and we have a very strong record on freedom from corruption. In this respect, Georgia is the leader of the region. All of this creates a very firm basis for sustaining our very high rate of economic growth. It should also be noted that, amidst all of this, the information technology sector plays a particularly vital role in our economic growth. Naturally, this sector must continue to receive particular attention,” the Prime Minister declared.

He added that, with digital transformation now an established reality, Georgia is securing a leading international position by fostering a safe and supportive environment for this process. As a result, the technology sector has experienced rapid growth over the past five years.

“Georgia is also delivering concrete, tangible results: the successful practice of paying state taxes in digital assets is the finest proof of this. And all of this is only the beginning. Gathered in this hall today are representatives of leading banks and leaders from the investment and technology sectors. This is precisely the force upon which our economic development rests. Through our cooperation with Tether, our country will continue to achieve even greater and more significant successes in its economic development journey.

I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to all those who played a particular role in establishing this partnership. My thanks to the representatives of the relevant state institutions, to parliamentarian Vakhtang Turnava, who was one of the principal initiators of this cooperation, and special thanks to our foreign partners, the representatives of Tether, whose collaboration will bring very significant results to our country,” Irakli Kobakhidze declared.
