PM Kobakhidze considers European bureaucracy true obstacle to Georgia’s EU integration
“The facts demonstrate that the European bureaucracy is completely unfair to the Georgian people and our state,” Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
The Prime Minister believes that precisely the European bureaucracy creates artificial barriers to Georgia’s European aspirations.
“If anyone is erecting artificial barriers to Georgia’s European aspirations, it is precisely the European bureaucracy. In 2022, they made a completely unfounded and unjust decision not to grant us candidate status. The same pattern repeated in December, March, June, and beyond. Over two years, unfair decisions were made against Georgia and its people. Subsequently, they refused to open negotiations, continuing this pattern of injustice. Now, it’s clear who is creating artificial obstacles on our path to European integration. We begged for candidacy; they refused and accused us of lacking pro-European commitment. We requested negotiations; they refused to open them, claiming we didn’t want European integration. It’s obvious who didn’t want it,” Kobakhidze stated.
The Prime Minister further criticised interference in the electoral process, citing the European Union ambassador’s public statements urging voters to mobilise on election day to change the government.
“This is an anti-democratic act. Who should criticise the European bureaucracy after this? They directly interfered in our elections,” Kobakhidze declared.
“The facts clearly show that the European bureaucracy is unfair to Georgia and its people. When there is no logical explanation for their actions, the only conclusion is that someone is deliberately interfering in the activities of European institutions,” he concluded.
