PM Kobakhidze: Azerbaijan is top five trading partner, boosting our strategic partnership

“Azerbaijan has become one of Georgia’s main trading partners in recent years,” stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during the opening of the 10th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Azerbaijan is one of Georgia’s most significant strategic partners.

“In the context of regional cooperation, it is crucial to ensure the successful functioning of energy and transport routes, to resolve existing conflicts, and to promote security in the region. Today, we will naturally focus on existing economic, energy, trade, and transport projects and their significance. These economic projects significantly enhance our country’s attractiveness and functionality.

It is noteworthy that Azerbaijan ranks among Georgia’s top five trading partners in recent years. Furthermore, Azerbaijan is one of our most important strategic partners. We are jointly implementing vital regional projects, such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the Southern Gas Corridor projects, the Middle Corridor project, and the Black Sea submarine cable project. It is essential to direct efforts toward ensuring and promoting energy security and independence,” Kobakhidze stated.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance Georgia places on the existing trilateral framework established between Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey.

“Undoubtedly, the successful functioning of this mechanism in various areas will bring even greater benefits to our common interests. Our countries collaborate closely in defence, culture, education, environmental protection, agriculture, healthcare, tourism, and customs. We express our readiness to further develop and deepen cooperation in these areas.

Today, we will have the opportunity to discuss the prospects and initiatives for our collaboration by sector,” Kobakhidze remarked, expressing hope that the outcomes achieved during the commission meeting would further invigorate the strategic partnership and deepen cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan.
