Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili gifted a unique, handwritten and specifically ornate Renaissance epoch poem Knight in the Panther Skin by Shota Rustaveli to the United Nations HQ in New York.
Georgian sculptor Guji Amashukeli, who currently lives and works in France, exclusively ornated the cover of a poem in silver and precious stones. A group of artists and calligraphists in Tbilisi and Paris produced the museum copy in 2017-2018.
“It is my great honour to present our national gift to the United Nations. I wish to express gratitude to the United Nations for everything – for support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia,” Irakli Garibashvili said.
The Georgian gift will be displayed at the UN Headquarters, next to the UN Security Council meeting room.
