PM: Georgia to resume work at PACE if unjust practices in European bureaucracy end

“Georgia will resume its engagement in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) if the unjust and inappropriate practices within European bureaucracy come to an end. At this stage, we see no value in our participation,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

According to the Prime Minister, Georgia’s involvement in PACE lacks meaning amidst the prevailing injustices and challenges.

“Nothing holds value, not even the truth. Look at the absurd amendments they introduced to the resolution, which was approved by approximately 140 votes. Under these conditions of injustice and ongoing issues, our participation in PACE becomes futile. We made a decision, which we consider non-negotiable, to suspend our work.

Georgia will re-engage with PACE only if the unfair and incorrect practices that we currently observe in European bureaucracy are resolved. As of now, our involvement feels meaningless,” he added.

The PACE on Wednesday approved a resolution on Georgia, granting limited credentials to the Georgian delegation till April. Following the resolution, the Head of the Georgian delegation to the PACE announced the Georgian Dream’s decision to quit.
