PM: Georgia sets example of success in today's peace challenge-facing world, thanks to State Security efforts
“In today’s world, where peace and stability have become the greatest challenge, Georgia is the best example of success, to which each representative of the State Security Service (SSSG) has made an exceptional contribution,” stated Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during his speech at an event marking the 10th anniversary of the State Security Service’s establishment.
Irakli Kobakhidze, together with President Mikheil Kavelashvili and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, extended their congratulations to the leadership and staff of the State Security Service on their anniversary, praising their outstanding dedication and vital contributions to national peace and stability.
“In today’s world, where peace and stability have become the greatest challenge, Georgia is the best example of success, to which you, each representative of the State Security Service, have made an exceptional contribution. It is precisely the result of your professionalism and tireless work that the state has successfully prevented numerous scenarios planned by internal and external forces aimed at political destabilisation and violent change of government.
Thanks to your merits, the country has overcome the most acute crises that threatened not only Georgia but the stability of the entire region. Against the backdrop of the difficult situation in the Black Sea region, our country still faces many challenges. One of the main sources of threats remains the temporary occupation of Georgia’s regions. Your efforts ensure the maintenance of a stable environment along the occupation line. Your contribution is particularly significant both in the release of illegally detained persons and in protecting the rights of our fellow citizens living in occupied territories.
Mr. Anri [Okhanashvili, Head of SSSG], I want to emphasise your personal efforts and those of your agency in the fight against corruption. Corruption is the greatest threat to the state; it hinders the effective functioning of public agencies, undermines citizens’ trust in state institutions, and impedes the country’s development, which we cannot tolerate. Our priority is to strengthen effective anti-corruption mechanisms, in which your service plays a key role. I want to reaffirm the government’s full support in this direction,” noted Irakli Kobakhidze.
The President and Parliament Speaker also congratulated the employees of the State Security Service on the agency’s 10th anniversary.
During the event, State Security Service Chief Anri Okhanashvili reflected on the service’s achievements, outlined upcoming initiatives, and expressed gratitude to the government and parliament for their ongoing support.
In celebration of the State Security Service’s 10th anniversary, Anri Okhanashvili honoured numerous service members with state honours. A total of 328 employees received State Security Service medals of the first class and honorary medals in recognition of their dedicated service.
