PM: Georgia historically plays key transit function, now it is island of peace, and can further strengthen this role

“Georgia historically has a key transit function. We have historically connected the West and East, Europe and Asia. Today, this role is even more pronounced against the backdrop of the difficult events developing around us,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told Georgian journalists in Turkmenistan while evaluating the UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, there are multiple conflicts around Georgia, and under these conditions, Georgia is a kind of island of peace in the region.

“Accordingly, Georgia today also plays a special role in terms of connectivity, and in the future can strengthen this role even more. For this purpose, we are deepening political and trade-economic ties with regional countries. As you may recall, multiple visits have taken place, including with my participation for this purpose. The Economy Minister also had several visits to regional countries over the past month. All these events and initiatives served to deepen economic and trade relations.

We will continue to actively pursue this potential through significant investments in infrastructure, including roads, ports, airports, and other key projects. In all directions, we will naturally make maximum effort to develop our country’s transit function further, and further strengthen our country’s strategic significance both politically and economically,” Irakli Kobakhidze declared.
