PM – EU special representative names penitentiary reform among reforms that can be “exported”
Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili thanked Minister of Penitentiary, Probation and Legal Assistance Kakha Kakhishvili. As Giorgi Kvirikashvili said at today’s sitting of Cabinet of Ministers, EU Special Representative has recently visited Georgia and it is another confirmation of the country’s progress in human rights issues.
The Prime Minister said that the EU Special Representative has recommended the fields, which can be “exported” and one of them is the reform implemented in penitentiary establishments and the elimination of the facts of torture and other ill-treatment.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Kakha Kakhishvili [Minister of Penitentiary and Probation] for his work and for recognition of the reforms carried out by him. The invitation of Georgia to this initiative is a very important on the path of our European integration and will greatly promote our country’s positive representation and will strengthen its positions on the international arena,” Prime Minister said.
