PM congratulates journalists on World Press Freedom Day

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili congratulated journalists and media outlets on World Press Freedom Day.

“Free press based on values and professionalism is one of the key determinants of a country’s democracy. Georgian media has gone through the hardest path since the day of gaining independence. It has withstood many challenges, harassment, and pressure. From the day we came to power, our political team has made one of the primary tasks to ensure the independence of the press. We have carried out many reforms for this purpose.

Today, the Georgian media space is pluralistic and free, having all the conditions for the strengthening and further development of journalism. According to the Press Freedom Index, Georgia is the undisputed leader in the region and is ahead of many EU member states. All this is the most important achievement of the government and the society of our country. The government is committed to promoting greater press freedom,” PM’s congratulatory statement reads.

Irakli Garibashvili pledged to support journalists and wished them success in professional activities.
