PM Candidate: EU must prove respect for Georgia's dignity and peaceful path

“Our election slogan is ‘Only with peace, dignity, and prosperity towards Europe,’ which also serves as the title of our government program. Our goal is to firmly uphold peace for our country,” said Irakli Kobakhidze, the candidate for Prime Minister of Georgia, in his speech at the plenary session of Parliament.

He emphasized that dignity is the first and most crucial guarantee for protecting national interests.

“Our aim is to safeguard our country’s interests with dignity, including achieving European Union membership with dignity, while improving the welfare of our people. Dignity is the cornerstone of protecting our national interests. As outlined in our slogan and government program, our task is to move towards the European Union. This will be a challenging path, and over the next six years, our objective remains to join the European Union by 2030. The EU has its conditions, and we must consider these from the outset. Naturally, we are prepared to meet those conditions that do not contradict our national interests. This is where the line is drawn—our dignity must be respected, and the European Union must prove that they honour this.

When we speak of moving towards Europe in peace, the European Union must demonstrate that our peaceful journey towards it is just as important to them. Moving towards Europe with dignity means the EU must protect our national interests and traditional values.

Regarding prosperity, some have misrepresented the process, suggesting that we must first join the European Union before we can achieve prosperity. In reality, the opposite is true. We must reach a certain level of prosperity first, and only then will we be accepted into the EU. In this regard, the EU must show that the economic development of our country and the improvement of our people’s well-being are valuable and fundamentally important to them,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze.
