Plea agreement concludes case against two arrested for Parliament barrier damage

The Georgian court has delivered its verdict regarding two individuals arrested during a protest outside Parliament in May 2024. Saba Meparishvili and Omar Okribelashvili were found guilty of damaging an iron guardrail at the entrance to the parliament building.

Judge Natia Gudadze sentenced both men to three years in prison. However, due to an amnesty, their sentences were reduced to 2.6 years. They will serve 1.6 years of actual prison time, followed by one year of suspended sentence. This means they will spend an additional 10 months in a penitentiary institution.

The defendants, aged 19 and 23, were arrested on May 14. The investigation revealed that they, along with other individuals, intentionally damaged the iron protective barrier at the entrance to Parliament using physical force and an iron object.

Both defendants admitted to the charges, which carry a penalty of three to six years of imprisonment for such offenses.
