People’s Power Macharashvili: UNM and its branches’ era has ended
“The United National Movement and its affiliates era has ended; events have unfolded swiftly,” stated Guram Macharashvili, a member of the People’s Power.
According to him, all necessary steps will be taken through legal channels to ensure that the United National Movement and its branches no longer operate within Georgia.
“They have degraded to such an extent that they are unable even to send their own representatives to the Constitutional Court to have their actions annulled. This is the consequence of their own conduct. Those wishing to participate in the political process must do so through legitimate platforms. These individuals abandoned the platforms of Parliament and the City Council, urging the public to take to the streets. Street protests only carry real weight when they are a response to the loss of parliamentary and municipal platforms. When elected representatives fail to utilise their mandates, street protests become meaningless. They had the platforms but were unable to use them. Their story is over,” Macharashvili remarked.
“We will pursue every legal avenue to ensure that the United National Movement and its branches cease to exist in Georgia. What did they expect, other than failure, when they first appointed Salome Zourabichvili as the opposition leader, and later Paata Burchuladze?” he added.
