People’s Power Guram Macharashvili: Gvaramia talking Trump out of picking fights with EU sounds comic

“Gvaramia is going to talk the President of the United States into backing down from his quarrel with the European Union? That must be another joke,” Guram Macharashvili, Executive Secretary of the People’s Power, has said.

According to Macharashvili, there is a fundamental clash of values between the Trump administration and the EU leadership, and neither side makes any secret of it.

“Let us look at what is happening between the European Union and the United States; the rift between them is stark. Let the United National Movement say plainly whose side it stands on: America’s or the EU’s? There is a deep values-based confrontation between the Trump administration and the EU leadership, and neither side conceals it. Is Gvaramia going to persuade Trump to abandon his position on values and say, ‘All right, darling, come on down, and we’ll back same-sex marriage in Georgia’? If that is what they are hoping for, the trip is a waste of time. Gvaramia is going to talk the President of the United States out of his quarrel with the EU and tell him to let it go? That must be another joke. These little trips of theirs are utterly meaningless,” said Guram Macharashvili.
