Patriarch Ilia II to be borne in procession to Holy Trinity Cathedral this afternoon

The remains of His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, are to be transferred to the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Holy Trinity today, March 18, 2026, the Patriarchate’s public relations office has announced.

A procession on foot will set off from the Patriarchal residence at 16:00.

“Today, March 18, 2026, the transfer of His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, and Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, Ilia II, from the Patriarchal residence to the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Holy Trinity will take place. The procession on foot will begin at 16:00,” reads the statement.

Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II passed away on March 17 at the age of 93.
