Parliament to hold extraordinary sessions

The Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, has called on President Mikheil Kavelashvili to convene an extraordinary parliamentary session. Papuashvili announced during the closing of the Parliament’s spring session.

According to him, the purpose of the extraordinary session is to discuss and adopt the Prime Minister’s recently proposed initiatives aimed at combating drug-related crime.

“The spring session is coming to an end, and this week, the Prime Minister introduced initiatives focused on the fight against drug crime. The leader of the parliamentary majority has confirmed Parliament’s readiness to consider and adopt these measures. Therefore, I intend to formally request that the President convene an extraordinary session next week, likely on July 1–2.

As today marks the last Friday of June, and under the first paragraph of Article 44 of the Constitution of Georgia, I hereby declare the spring session of Parliament closed,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
