Parliament Speaker returns broken chains and padlocks to opposition

Archil Talakvadze, Speaker of the Parliament returned chains and padlocks to the opposition during the bureau sitting of the parliament.

Talakvadze said that a padlock was the symbol of the opposition’s attitude and values toward Georgian citizens and the statehood.

“Representatives of one part of the opposition put padlocks on the gates of the parliament building. I would like to remind to the public who these people were – They were those, who put a padlock on human rights, on media, private property, state institutions and the idea of freedom several years ago,” Talakvadze said.

Parliament Speaker said that he was returning the chains and padlocks to the opposition for them to remember that they would never put them on freedom, parliament or values.

Oppositional representatives blocked entrances of the parliament on November 17, put chains on the fences and padlocks on doors.

Representatives of Special Task Units cleared entrances of the parliament and removed the tents set up by protesters at Rustaveli Avenue. Traffic movement is restored at Rustaveli Avenue.
