Parliament Speaker meets Deputy Speaker of Hellenic Parliament on the sidelines of the IPU Assembly in Istanbul
The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, has met with the Deputy Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, Ioannis Plakiotakis.
The meeting placed particular emphasis on the millennia-old historical and cultural ties binding Georgia and Greece. Speaker Papuashvili expressed his gratitude for the support shown to the Georgian diaspora resident in Greece, while his counterpart noted that ethnic Greeks living in Georgia form an inseparable part of local society.
Both parties expressed their commitment to strengthening inter-parliamentary relations and emphasised the significance of fully leveraging the potential for collaboration in trade and economic matters. The two delegations also discussed prospects for collaboration within international inter-parliamentary organisations.
Georgia’s relations with the European Union were likewise on the agenda.
The meeting took place in Istanbul, on the margins of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The Georgian delegation, led by Speaker Papuashvili, includes Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations, and Maia Bitadze, Chairwoman of the Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.
