Parliament Speaker: Last stage requires more willpower and the right decisions from the opposition

New elections will not be held. We do not plan to impede functioning of the state institutions either, Archil Talakvadze, Parliament Speaker wrote in the social network.

“Despite the pandemic, about 2 million people took part in the elections, and we have no right to question their choice. Within Constitutional framework, we keep a dialog with the opposition about other issues. However, the last stage requires more willpower and the right decisions from the opposition, in an environment free from destructive elements,” Talakvadze said.

Parliament Speaker also thanked Ambassadors for supporting the dialog.

Nine opposition parties that passed a 1% threshold to enter the new Georgian parliament refused to recognize the October 31 parliamentary election results, calling them rigged. The U.S. and EU Ambassadors to Georgia are facilitating the negotiations between the ruling Georgian Dream Party and the opposition, though the first two rounds ended in no promising results.
