Parliament Speaker: Georgia’s sovereignty under attack; Brussels’ statements serve as manifestation
“The ongoing assault on Georgia, on our society and the collective will of our people to govern our country according to our own choices, continues unabated. What we are witnessing at this moment is, in essence, a test of our sovereignty,” Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, told journalists.
According to Papuashvili, Georgia’s right to make independent decisions is being undermined through various means. One clear example of this is the range of statements and gatherings emanating from Brussels.
“Until Brussels, whether in the format of foreign ministers, the council, or any other platform, explicitly and unequivocally condemns the violence of October 4 and the attack on the presidential palace, an act previously supported by the European Commission through its spokesperson, none of their words holds any real value for Georgian society.
The European Commission, via its spokesperson, expressed support for the violence in Georgia, echoing the Nepal scenario and the overthrow of our government. Five months have passed, and we have yet to hear a single word of condemnation. It appears Brussels is in disarray. Naturally, any statements they make regarding Georgia should be understood within this context, as a continuation of their support for anti-democratic forces within our country,” Papuashvili remarked.
