Parliament endorses revised Law on Special Investigation Service

The Georgian parliament passed the proposed amendments to the Law on Special Investigation Service on Wednesday in the third reading, with 80 MPs voting in favour and one against.

According to the law, the Investigation Service, rather than the Prosecutor’s Office, will probe any violation of the European Convention on Human Rights. Social care benefits for Personal Data Protection Service employees will be increased.

The legislative package has been drafted per the 12-point plan proposed by the European Commission. A working group formed by the parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee wrote the bill.
