Parliament approves draft resolution on Investigative Commission report
The Parliament of Georgia adopted the draft resolution on the report of the temporary investigative commission at today’s plenary session.
The resolution, titled “On the results of the activities of the temporary investigative commission of the Parliament of Georgia investigating the activities of the regime in force in 2003–2012, political officials of this regime, and current and former officials affiliated with political parties from 2003 to the present”, was supported unanimously with 85 votes.
The draft was presented by Irakli Kirtskhalia, Chairman of the Georgian Dream faction.
“Based on the analysis conducted within the powers granted to the investigative commission and the facts presented in its conclusion, the Parliament of Georgia, in accordance with the Rules of Procedure, determined that the National Movement regime committed acts of torture and inhuman treatment; murders and violence by its representatives; violations of the right to privacy; large-scale corruption; business racketeering; and infringements on property rights. The findings also include actions against media freedom, violations of Georgia’s territorial integrity and peace process, as well as anti-state activities carried out by Mikheil Saakashvili’s National Movement and affiliated individuals during 2012–2025,” Kirtskhalia said.
He also announced that a solid and well-founded lawsuit based on the commission’s findings will be submitted to the Constitutional Court.
“The public will follow the process live, just as it has observed the commission’s work over the past months,” Kirtskhalia stated.
