Parliament approved amendments to Constitution with 115 votes

Parliament of Georgia has approved amendments to Constitution with 115 votes. MPs discussed the amendments through third hearing today.

According to changes, parties will be allowed to form election blocs for the next parliamentary election in 2020. Also, in 2024 the so called bonus system will be abolished and election threshold will be reduced from 5% to 3%.

According to amendments, “state security,” “preventing crime” and “administering justice” will be removed from the text.

The changes will enter into force upon swear-in of the newly elected President in October.
