Papuashvili: We aim to maintain, not spoil, good relations with everyone, especially France

“In general, there are longstanding historical ties between Georgia and France, both with our first republic and today, as France plays an important role in our country’s development,” said Shalva Papuashvili, the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, to journalists.

According to Papuashvili, Georgia values France’s support, particularly in the realm of non-recognition policy.

“France has the opportunity to engage with countries where we may lack direct diplomatic communication due to geographical or other reasons, ensuring that the policy of non-recognition is upheld.

You know that France has a new ambassador to Georgia, whom I met today, and we had a very constructive conversation. We discussed all the issues that matter to us, and based on his attitude, I am confident that the relations we wish for between our countries will be restored to the right path.

From our side, relations cannot be allowed to deteriorate. Our objective is to maintain good relations with everyone and avoid any escalation, especially when it comes to France. We are fully committed to open relations founded on mutual respect. Our only condition is mutual respect, respect for each other’s sovereignty.

I believe the new French ambassador is very eager in this regard, and he will have our full support. We are dedicated to restoring and strengthening these relations to the level we aspire to. We will do everything necessary to achieve this,” concluded Shalva Papuashvili.
