Outgoing U.S. Ambassador: Special bond between American and Georgian people cannot be broken; Georgia's place is in Western family of democracies
“The special bond between the American and Georgian people cannot be broken. Georgia’s place is in the Western family of democracies. By working together, we can create a better future for our children,” said Robin Dunnigan, outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Georgia her farewell video address.
According to Robin Dunnigan, she would remain a true friend of the Georgian people forever.
“Gamarjoba Sakartvelo! I would like to take this opportunity to say goodbye and thank you. In my 33 years as a diplomat, living and working across the globe, I have never ever met people as warm and generous as the Georgian people.
Thank you for opening your hearts and homes to me and my family. Thank you for sharing your heartfelt toasts, your delicious supras, your magnificent polyphonic singing and your unique culture.
We have travelled across your beautiful country, from Svaneti and Ushguli, to Kakheti and Tusheti and every corner of Tbilisi, and everywhere we went, we were treated like family and were overwhelmed by your generous hospitality.
I know about the special bond between the American and Georgian people that cannot be broken. And I know that Georgia’s place is in the Western family of democracies. By working together, I know that we can create a better future for our children. I am leaving a piece of my heart in Georgia, and I will be forever a true friend of the Georgian people. Thank you. Didi madloba and shekhvedramde!” she said.
On June 5, U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Robin Dunnigan announced her retirement in a statement. She said she quit, citing a personal decision, not a U.S. administration request.
