Police apprehend six protesters in Batumi

The Police apprehended six protesters following a clash between law enforcers and protesters at Adjara government building in the Black Sea town of Batumi on Sunday.

One of the law enforcers was injured during the clash.

Opposition protesters clashed with police after they were prevented from entering government building to meet the Chairman of the Government of Ajara Tornike Rijvadze.

Representatives of the opposition parties have been holding rallies in front of Adjara Government building since November 8. Protesters set up the tents on the spot where some of them are staying overnight.

Protesters are demanding repeat elections as well as the resignation of the Central Election Commission (CEC) and Adjara Supreme Election Commission (SEC).

United National Movement (UNM) members refuse Adjara Supreme Council mandates and plan to kick off legal proceedings on the day of the Council’s first session.

Only Georgian Dream and National Movement crossed the threshold in Adjara Supreme Council election. Out of 21 seats, the ruling party obtained 14, and UNM – seven.
