“If a statement regarding Murtaz Zodelava was necessary, the family would have issued it without outside help; there is no need to attach a political subtext to it,” said Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Opposition Alliance on Facebook.

According to Gvaramia, Murtaz Zodelava’s health state is satisfactory.

“I visited Murtaz Zodelava in the Vivamedi Clinic. He is my close friend. I am his groomsman and his child’s godfather. If a statement regarding Murtaz Zodelava was necessary, the family would have issued it without outside help. There is no need to attach a political subtext to it, especially without his consent. Moreover, he opposes it because this issue is very sensitive for his elderly parents.

Murtaz feels well. The clinic is very attentive to the patient, and we hope that everything will proceed smoothly, with the patient’s best interests in mind and without disclosing personal information regarding his health status,” he wrote.

Jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili wrote on social media that the imprisoned opposition politician was transferred to the Vivamedi Clinic as he “suffered a stroke twice serving his prison sentence next to his cell.”

The Special Penitentiary Service issued an official statement regarding the health condition of convicted opposition politician Murtaz Zodelava. It said that Zodelava had not suffered a stroke. Following medical examinations conducted at the Vivamedi Clinic, all types of acute pathological processes have been completely ruled out.
