“On 28 October 1990, Georgia held its first multi-party elections. I am proud that, together with my friends, I am defending the values that Georgian citizens took with them to the ballot box back then,” Tengo Tevzadze, a member of the Coalition for Change, told today’s Constitutional Court hearing.

Tevzadze said the main goal then was to restore statehood and independence and the legal succession of the Democratic Republic of 1921.

“I serve that same idea, and here in the Constitutional Court, before the Plenum, I swear that I will do everything to ensure that revenge on Georgia’s independence and a Soviet comeback never happen. Perhaps the members of the Plenum also agree with me that you will do the same,” Tevzadze said.

Since 21 October, the Constitutional Court has been hearing Georgian Dream’s constitutional lawsuit seeking to declare unconstitutional and ban the activities of the United National Movement, the Coalition for Change, Strong Georgia – Lelo, the Federalists and Gakharia for Georgia.
