Nika Gvaramia: Party ban lawsuit is “a historic manual on how to betray your homeland”, a verdict Georgian Dream has written on itself

“The constitutional lawsuit is a historic document on how to betray your homeland. That is the verdict Georgian Dream has written on itself,” said Nika Gvaramia, leader of the Coalition for Change, in Batumi, where the Constitutional Court hearing is due to begin.

Gvaramia said the lawsuit and its consequences would lead the country into a dead end.

“In general, I am not in favour of banning parties or this form of control. Yet, if anything under Georgia’s Constitution could justify banning a party and holding individuals to account, it is the potential consequence of upholding this lawsuit. It will not just lead to Gvaramia, Melia, Khoshtaria, Saakashvili, Japaridze or anyone else being sent to prison. We will get out of prison, but Georgia may never get out of the dead end that upholding this lawsuit will lead it into,” Gvaramia said.

The Constitutional Court is commencing its substantive hearing regarding the constitutionality and potential ban of five political parties.
