NGOs vow to continue fighting for Georgian people's rights

“Georgian non-governmental organizations continue to protest the illegal demands of the Ivanishvili/Kuprashvili Anti-Corruption Bureau, which were obediently satisfied by the clan court,” according to a joint statement by NGOs.

NGOs pledge “not live under Russian laws” and will continue fighting “to defend the rights of the Georgian people.”

“In June 2025, the Ivanishvili-Kuprashvili Bureau, through Murusidze’s court, demanded we provide personal information about people under our protection – torture victims, women victims of violence, students, teachers, pensioners, disabled persons, entrepreneurs, whistleblowers, journalists, observers, and unlawfully dismissed public servants, as well as information about our activities.

The Court of Appeals, chaired by Chinchaladze who is sanctioned by the US and UK, did not satisfy our complaint and issued a decision violating at least ten laws. The demands contradict Georgia’s Constitution, personal data protection legislation, international standards of human rights defender confidentiality, the European Convention on Human Rights, and European Court practice.

We once again categorically declare that we will not betray our citizens’ trust. We will not give anyone access to confidential information about people we have helped. We are accountable to citizens, not to Ivanishvili. Information about our activities, finances, projects, and international cooperation that is not prohibited from disclosure by the Constitution and other legislation can be found on our websites and social networks, therefore we will not send them additional documents.

Within his repressive policy framework, Ivanishvili is trying to destroy Georgian civil society organizations, similar to Putin’s Russia. This is part of Ivanishvili’s anti-Western policy that serves to undermine democracy in the country and destroy relations with international partners,” the statement reads.
