Newly identified remains of 13 people killed during armed conflict and repatriated from occupied Abkhazia to be buried

The newly identified remains of 13 people killed during the armed conflict of 1990s and repatriated from occupied Abkhazia region will be buried today.

The public funeral will take place at Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral. The funeral of 2 persons will be held at Dighomi Brothers Cemetery. Others will be buried at family cemeteries.

The identification of remains of Georgian soldiers became possible through joint forces of Georgian State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality with the Red Cross International Committee.

The first repatriation of remains took place in 2013. The remains of 563 people have been found in total out of which 191 are identified.
