New digital platform launched to strengthen Georgian language teaching for diaspora
A new platform, Georgian Language for Emigrants, has been presented at Georgia’s Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, designed to strengthen Georgian language teaching for the diaspora.
According to the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, the Education Minister, Givi Mikanadze, participated in the presentation. He thanked all parties involved in developing the project for their collaboration and elaborated on the significance of the new platform in popularising the Georgian language and culture amongst Georgian children living abroad.
“The digital platform, which aims to help bring the diaspora closer to Georgia, has been created by the National Centre for Teacher Professional Development. At this stage, approximately 2,400 pupils from 73 countries and 41 teachers have registered. The platform hosts sections for pupils, teachers and educational resources. The portal facilitates the registration of interested parties, provides access to educational resources hosted on the platform, offers methodological support for teachers, and keeps interested persons informed.
Lessons for pupils wishing to study Georgian are conducted by certified teachers trained by the National Centre for Teacher Professional Development.
The distance learning provision for Georgian language teaching to the diaspora has been in operation since 2017,” the statement reads.
