NBG: Remittances from Russia fall, EU and US transfers rise

In July, remittances to Georgia rose by 13.0% year-on-year, reaching USD 337.0 million. Meanwhile, funds transferred from Georgia increased by 11.4%, totaling USD 37.3 million, according to a report by the National Bank of Georgia.

The central bank noted that the growth was largely driven by remittances from the European Union, which rose 16.4% annually, while remittances from the USA grew by 21.1%. Contributions from Russia in July were negligible, at -0.1%.

“In July, the main sources of remittances were the European Union (44.3%), the USA (18.1%), and Russia (13.4%). Among EU countries, Italy (16.5%), Germany (8.7%), and Greece (7.7%) accounted for the largest shares,” the NBG report states.
