NATO Sec/Gen report: Elements of NATO-Georgia cooperation were reprioritised, defence cooperation progressed
The NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has published annual report. The 2025 report notes that Georgia continues to receive support under NATO’s Defense and Security Capability Building (DCB) initiative, aimed at strengthening the country’s defense and security capacities.
It also highlights that, following the 2024 parliamentary elections and subsequent developments, Allied countries have held discussions regarding NATO’s engagement with Georgia.
“Allies also reviewed NATO’s engagement with Georgia in light of the 2024 parliamentary elections and their aftermath. As a result, elements of NATO-Georgia cooperation were reprioritised, including some aspects of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package. At the same time, defence cooperation with the Georgian Defence Forces progressed, highlighted by the successful NATO Georgia exercise in May. The NATO Liaison Office in Tbilisi, Georgia continued active engagement with all three partners across the South Caucasus region,” the report noted.
According to the report, throughout 2025, a team of NATO advisors continued to work with Georgian counterparts to increase defense capabilities and interoperability with the alliance.
