NATO Envoy Colomina: NATO does not recognize legitimacy of "elections" in Abkhazia
“NATO does not recognize the legitimacy of the elections which took place on Saturday in the Georgian region of Abkhazia,” said Javier Colomina, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia.
“The Alliance continues to support Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders,” NATO Envoy wrote on Twitter.
The de facto authorities of occupied Abkhazia held so-called parliamentary elections in the region on Saturday. Georgian Foreign Ministry stressed this act “represents a violation of the norms principles of international law and is another futile attempt to legitimize the illegal occupation of two indivisible regions of Georgia.”
