Municipal transport routes near Holy Trinity Cathedral revised until March 22 in connection with Patriarch Ilia II's funeral
In connection with the burial of His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, traffic in the area surrounding the Holy Trinity Cathedral is restricted until March 22.
According to the Tbilisi City Hall, municipal transport routes operating in the same area are also being amended accordingly.
“Minibuses on routes Nos. 434, 478, 479, 522, and 576, which previously travelled towards Avlabari Metro Station via Saingilo Street, passing along Gumbri and Sareklo Streets, will instead continue from Saingilo Street in the direction of Davit Tsimakuradze Street, thereafter connecting to Avlabari Metro Station via George Bush Street, Lech Kaczyński Street, and Queen Ketevan Avenue.
In the reverse direction, these minibuses will travel towards Saingilo Street via Avlabari Square, Nikifore Irbakhi Street, Aleksandre Tsurtsumia Street, Grigol Kobakhidze Street, Martkopi Street, and Martkopi Lane, after which they will resume their usual route.
Minibus No. 525 will likewise follow the above-described route when travelling in the direction of Avlabari.
As regards route No. 391, the bus will continue from Ivane Javakhishvili Street towards Europe Square, thereafter connecting to Queen Ketevan Avenue via the Nikoloz Baratashvili Rise. In the reverse direction, it will travel via Lech Kaczyński Street, Bochorma Street, Queen Ketevan Avenue, Baratashvili Rise, and Kosta Khetagurov Street, resuming its standard route from Javakhishvili Street.
The Catholicos-Patriarch passed away on March 17 at the age of 93. He is to be buried at Sioni Cathedral on March 22,” reads the statement issued by Tbilisi City Hall.
