MP Samkharadze discusses revitalisation of Georgian–American relations and strategic partnership with Deputy National Security Advisor
“We have just concluded a meeting with Deputy National Security Advisor Andrew Baker. The meeting was quite engaging,” stated the head of the Georgian parliamentary delegation to the United States, MP Nikoloz Samkharadze, during his visit to the United States.
According to him, the primary focus of the meeting was to enhance and restore Georgian-American relations, to reestablish a strategic partnership.
“We have discussed a wide range of topics. The primary issue was the revitalisation of Georgian–American relations and the restoration of the strategic partnership. We discussed the interest and readiness demonstrated by the Georgian side. We also exchanged views on which issues could serve as leading directions for restoring relations.
The discussion also addressed security challenges, including developments in Iran and their impact on both Georgia and the South Caucasus region.
One of the key topics was the development of the Middle Corridor and the process of normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Additionally, the potential threats resulting from Russia’s occupation of Georgian territories were also thoroughly discussed.
We hope that this meeting and the spirit in which it was conducted will enable us to take successful steps in the future,” Nikoloz Samkharadze noted.
The meeting was attended by Tamar Taliashvili, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the United States, and Charles J. McLaughlin IV, Special Assistant to the President of the United States.
Nikoloz Samkharadze, together with the parliamentary delegation, is on an official visit to the United States.
