MP Matikashvili: US and Georgia will find common ground; opposition will fail to drag Georgia into conflict

“The ultimate dream of the United National Movement is for Georgia to become a military target. They tried their hardest to turn Georgia into a target for Russia, but they failed catastrophically,” declared MP Davit Matikashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Procedural Issues Committee.

Matikashvili was responding to a controversial statement made by Davit Sakvarelidze, who had suggested, “Georgia has a unique opportunity to secure the deployment of US military units on its soil as a security guarantee. The United States is bound to clash with Iran eventually, and Georgian territory could serve as a vital logistical hub.”

“Lest we forget, Saakashvili was smuggled into Georgia inside a cargo container for the sole purpose of plunging this country into chaos, turning a destabilised Georgia into a proxy state and a target for Russia. That plot failed. Now, they are fixating on a new angle.

David Sakvarelidze can rest easy: the United States and Georgia are finding common ground, and the process of deepening our bilateral relations is well underway. The United National Movement’s only true objective is to engulf Georgia in flames and make it a target for foreign powers. They will never live to see that day. The absolute guarantors against such a nightmare are Bidzina Ivanishvili, this government, and the Georgian people,” Matikashvili stated.
