MP Matikashvili: Radicals’ opinions on elections do not matter; Their patrons’ plans do

“It’s not important what the radicals think about the elections; what truly matters is what their patrons have planned,” said MP Davit Matikashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues.

According to Matikashvili, “the opposition is waiting for another verdict from the Georgian people in the upcoming local elections.”

“As for the electoral process, it entirely depends on the patrons guiding the opposition, who assign them specific tasks. The radicals, who pretend to be principled and claim they will not participate, will indeed take part in the local elections. When they say they will abstain, it is because their patrons’ plans for Georgia dictate otherwise. The crucial point is not their opinions or the initiatives proposed by a handful of radicals regarding the elections. The main focus is that, once again, including in these local elections, they are awaiting another verdict from the Georgian people,” stated Davit Matikashvili.

Furthermore, as Matikashvili emphasised, political leniency cannot be extended to individuals who have committed crimes.

“There is a fully adequate criminal law in place for all perpetrators of offences. There can be no political leniency if a legal process against a person is not fully carried out,” Matikashvili concluded.
