MP Makhashvili: Whether EP passes one or thousand resolutions based on narrow political goals is no longer of concern to us
“Beyond the political noise, the report from the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee holds no real significance. In terms of content, spirit, objectives, and authorship, it is entirely disconnected from reality and does not reflect the true spirit of dialogue,” stated MP Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee.
He emphasised that the Georgian Dream is prepared for cooperation, genuine dialogue, and partnership.
“When we witness such unfounded accusations, misleading statements, and documents filled with falsehoods, it undermines bilateral cooperation and dialogue. It is unfortunate that, in recent years, the European Parliament has become an obstacle to this dialogue. Despite political misunderstandings, we maintain very good cooperation with other states and the European Union overall in many areas. The European Parliament has consistently been at the forefront of attacks and assaults against our state. Until 2029, when the European Parliament holds influence, we have little hope for significant change within its ranks. Nevertheless, we continue to work with these entities. Whether the European Parliament adopts one resolution or a thousand driven by narrow political interests is no longer of importance to us,” Makhashvili added.
The European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee voted 53 to 14 against the report on Georgia, presented by rapporteur MEP Rasa Juknevičienė.
