MP Makhashvili: Past days revealed core values of majority of Georgian people

“On one hand, these were days marked by sorrow and mourning, but simultaneously, they presented an opportunity for those unfamiliar with Georgia to see where society’s true principles lie, and what future the Georgian people are striving to build. These are the values that the Patriarchate and the Patriarch have steadfastly defended,” stated MP Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee.

According to Makhashvili, the recent days have clearly demonstrated where the heartbeat of society resides.

“For me, as an ordinary politician, it was a message about where the genuine values, the true situation, and the real positions of the vast majority of the Georgian population are, what they stand for and, most importantly, what they expect politicians to protect. Politicians can gauge their efforts beyond just election cycles, but occasions like these days offer a real insight into society’s pulse. And in this instance, the heartbeat was unmistakably aligned with the people’s desire to safeguard Georgian values. For me, as a politician, this was a significant message from the populace. Many should take this message seriously. The themes of societal unity, mutual support, and cooperation are the key lessons everyone should draw from these days.

On one hand, these were days of sadness and mourning, but if there is anything positive to be gleaned, it is that the world is getting to know Georgia; those who are unaware of what is happening here can see where society’s true positions are, what it values, and what it holds in respect.

For outsiders, these days provided an important opportunity to understand what lies beyond the famous khachapuri and what principles underpin this society and the future the Georgian people are shaping. These are the values and the worth that the Patriarchate and the Patriarch have defended. Therefore, both within Georgia and internationally, these days send a clear message about where the Georgian population stands and what it defends,” Levan Makhashvili told GPB First Channel.
