MP Makhashvili hopes that Berlin’s failure to update its Foreign Office’s website is technical glitch rather than decision
“It is regrettable that, despite our appeals, the German Foreign Office has still not updated the information on its website. If this failure is deliberate, it would mean that Germany has made a conscious decision to encourage radical processes within Georgia,” said MP Levan Makhashvili, a member of Georgian Dream.
He added that it would be greatly preferable for the information on the German Foreign Office’s website to be updated without further delay, to dispel any legitimate questions that may currently exist on the matter.
Makhashvili responded to questions about the information displayed on the German Foreign Office’s official website regarding Georgia. Specifically, the fact that the portal continues to list Salome Zourabichvili as the country’s president, whilst the equivalent entry for Syria has been duly amended.
“We will watch closely and observe what decision Germany takes over the coming weeks and months. We will be able to draw appropriate conclusions about Germany’s stance towards the developments in Georgia, based on the observations we have made. We wish to believe that this is nothing more than a technical oversight, and that the real intentions lie elsewhere. We hope that this is purely a matter of a technical failing and that it bears no relation to any deliberate decision on Germany’s part to encourage radical forces within Georgia.
This is not a website under Georgian control, it is an official German government website. Our only recourse is to remind them that this information requires updating, and to furnish them with the correct, current details. The rest is entirely for Germany to decide. We remain hopeful that this is solely a technical matter, and that there is nothing more to it, because legitimate questions are being asked today to which we do not yet have answers,” Makhashvili said.
