MP Machavariani: Statements on visa liberalisation to create agitation expected in September

“We remain optimistic regarding visa liberalisation, as we do not believe they would have the audacity at this level to suspend visa liberalisation without any legal grounds,” declared MP Levan Machavariani, a member of the parliamentary majority.

According to him, Georgia’s government expects specific statements in September aimed at introducing agitation into the country.

As Machavariani noted, getting people onto the streets no longer comes easily to the opposition.

“European leaders need to prove nothing. They know everything that constitutes reality and the given situation. The reality is precisely those studies and reports which the European Commission publishes. In this case, there is a political interest in who suits to have Georgian Dream in government and who does not.

The Georgian Dream in government does not suit those forces who want Georgia to be governed by a puppet government. All of this was revealed from the day the war began in Ukraine, since Georgian Dream could not be forced into something that the collective ‘United National Movement’ would very easily have been forced into. We did not engage in military actions and did not open a second front. This does not suit them, and they want Georgia’s government to be staffed with agents, so that when such a need arises, this order would be fulfilled by the radical opposition with a single command.

We remain optimistic regarding visa liberalisation, as we do not believe they would have the audacity at this level to suspend visa liberalisation without any legal grounds. We expect statements in September. There might be statements of such a type that would cause the introduction of artificial agitation in our country. In this case, we specifically mean statements and not actions. This is why those two laws are written into those eight demands.

They remember very well that both laws are red lines, since the transparency law protects our country’s security, whilst the anti-LGBT propaganda law protects our traditional values, identity, and future generations.

They know very well that the national government, Georgian Dream, will not refuse either the protection of security or the preservation of traditional values. Accordingly, there is a probability that specific statements will be made in September to introduce agitation. This should mobilise their radical parties, activists, and wealthy NGOs and bring a certain portion of our citizens onto the streets. However, even that part of the population that they used to bring onto the streets so easily, a large part of them have now learned to distinguish between good and evil. Accordingly, getting people onto the streets won’t come to them so easily anymore. Misleading our citizens is far more difficult than it was four years ago,” Machavariani declared.
