MP Levan Makhashvili: Opposition must make substantial changes or face same outcome in 2028
“The opposition is currently facing significant challenges. Cosmetic changes are no longer sufficient; they must fundamentally alter their stance and perspectives. Otherwise, come 2028 [parliamentary election year in Georgia], the same result will inevitably unfold,” said MP Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee.
“The time has come for the opposition to not only shift its policies and direction but to implement substantial reforms. Superficial alterations, such as changing names, symbols, or colours, have been tried many times in recent years and have proven ineffective. The public is now far more discerning, informed, and demanding. Simply changing a name or a banner no longer suffices; it simply doesn’t work anymore. What matters are the actions taken and promises made to the electorate.
If the present situation does not mark their political round off, then they are indeed facing profound problems. Superficial changes will no longer suffice; they need to fundamentally shift their attitude and views. Otherwise, come 2028, the outcome will remain unchanged, unless, of course, the Georgian Dream secures a better result,” Makhashvili added.
