MP Levan Makhashvili: No new insights from Brussels on Georgia; maybe map will help them find region

“It’s a rather lengthy agenda, and I doubt they’ll manage to discuss Georgia at all,” said MP Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee.

When asked about the recent meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, Makhashvili responded:

“Nothing new is happening. They’ve been holding meetings over the past few days. It’s surprising that, when the whole world revolves around the European Union, they’ve dedicated time to Georgia, despite there being no real basis for this. The agenda is quite extensive, and I’m not convinced they will even manage to discuss Georgia.

In any case, the public will not hear anything new or interesting from them. I don’t know what they’re looking at or where they’re getting their information from when they make such assessments about Georgia, but I could send them a map; perhaps then they would understand where the region is. We have seen that some people have no idea where Iran or the surrounding areas are.

Instead of superficial evaluations and reinventing the wheel, they shouldn’t slam the door to dialogue; rather, they should sit down at the negotiation table, examine the issues, and discuss what needs to be addressed. Some seem to believe they have the right to impose their will on another country by force. When we see a lack of genuine willingness to engage in dialogue, then we are compelled to make decisions,” Makhashvili stated.
