MP Kadagishvili: Opposition likely to participate in local elections amid leadership disputes and internal struggles
“Most opposition parties are likely to participate in the upcoming local self-government elections. However, internal disagreements over leadership and ongoing power struggles within the opposition continue to characterise their dynamics,” stated Irakli Kadagishvili, Chairman of the Self-Government Committee.
According to Kadagishvili, the opposition is currently experiencing a crisis rooted in their confrontation with the will of the people and the state.
“When political parties refuse to recognise elections held in a democratic environment simply because they dislike the results, and do so under external pressure and incitement, they inevitably face an objective crisis. This crisis is a direct consequence of their own actions. The Georgian Dream government, and even more so Bidzina Ivanishvili, are less to blame for this situation. They are simply reaping what they have sown. Their crisis stems from their opposition to the people’s choice and the state—this is the outcome of their policies. Neither the people nor the Georgian Dream are solely responsible; they should reflect on their own roles in this process.”
Regarding the opposition’s internal conflicts over leadership, Kadagishvili noted, “Most of the opposition will probably participate in the elections, but disputes over who will lead them continue. They are embroiled in internal battles, and these intrigues are nothing new—they will likely persist.”
