MP Irakli Kadagishvili: Whether it is the EU ambassador or any other envoy, they must learn to respect the Georgian state
“Be it the European Union ambassador or any other foreign envoy, they must first and foremost learn to respect the Georgian state,” stated MP Irakli Kadagishvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Self-Governance.
Kadagishvili was responding to remarks by Pawel Herczynski, the EU Ambassador to Georgia, who insisted that “if Georgia wishes ever to become an EU member state, it must adopt European, rather than American, Russian, or Chinese laws.”
The ruling party MP rejected what he described as a feudal ‘divide and rule’ strategy.
“The Georgian people and the Georgian state are indivisible. The lifeblood of the Georgian state is its people, who alone elect the nation’s government. Ambassadors must respect Georgia as a unified whole; no one will be permitted to tear this country apart. These feudal ‘divide and rule’ tactics will not work here. Speaking to the Georgian people means speaking to the government they elected.
They cut off political dialogue with Georgia ahead of the summer 2024 elections. Now, they ought to restore that dialogue and ground their assessments in reality, rather than making loud declarations from afar. That would be a far more realistic stance than broadcasting loud declarations,” Kadagishvili said.
