MP Irakli Kadagishvili: Brussels must stop blaming Georgia for damaging democracy
“It would be welcome if Brussels were gradually to shift its gaze away from revolutionary scenarios and face reality, taking an honest look at what Georgia has actually achieved,” said MP Irakli Kadagishvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Self-Governance.
He added that it would equally have been welcome had Brussels refrained from applauding the demonstrators who took to the streets following the 2024 elections.
“The time has come for them to reflect and stop blaming Georgia and its government for undermining democratic processes. Regrettably, they did everything in their power to foment chaos and revolutionary upheaval in Georgia. That responsibility lies with them. Of course, no one will accept that responsibility or offer an apology; however, it would be a good deal better if they were gradually to turn away from their revolutionary scripts, face reality, and take a clear-eyed look at what Georgia has to show for itself. That would serve today’s Europe well. As for democracy, it would have been rather more becoming had they paid proper attention to the 2024 elections, instead of applauding those who came out onto the streets in an attempt to overturn the state,” Kadagishvili stated.
