MP Ionatamishvili: Double standards have long been the EU’s trademark, and its institutions’ reputation is damaged

“Double standards have long been the EU’s defining feature. If you incite violence elsewhere, the only certain outcome is that you will eventually face it on your own doorstep,” Rati Ionatamishvili, chair of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, told Georgian Public Broadcaster’s First Channel.

Ionatamishvili said that the crisis within the European institutions is now very deep because of these double standards.

“This is exactly what we are seeing now, because when they encouraged violence in Georgia, they were encouraging violence everywhere. We do not expect European citizens to draw any conclusions; however, this type of conduct and double standards have caused such a profound crisis within European institutions today. In effect, the image and reputation of these institutions have been severely damaged,” Ionatamishvili said.
