MP Davit Matikashvili: Radicals fear rapid pace of U.S.-Georgia relations and attempt to gain political points

“Radicals are frightened by the accelerating pace of the U.S.-Georgia relationship, and as a result, they are attempting to score political points by posing themselves,” said MP Davit Matikashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues.

He emphasised that political forces should seek support within their own countries rather than looking to Washington and Brussels.

“Joe Wilson, a supporter of the united opposition, is currently facing a storm of criticism and is being directly advised by congressmen to stop flying foreign flags and to act as an American. It’s quite clear who backs the opposition: organisations like the Helsinki Commission, which finds itself in the hands of the so-called Deep State, Joe Wilson, and others. Radicals are intimidated by the growing momentum of U.S.-Georgia relations. That’s why they are trying to score points by simply posing. Political forces should focus on gaining support from their own people, not from Washington or Brussels. First and foremost, they should strengthen their support domestically. Yet, they are making the same mistake again,” Matikashvili stated.
